Let's Get Sustainable!

Sustainability & Its Benefits

Since the 1980's sustainability has been a hot topic. I mean, who wouldn’t be opposed to saving our planet right?! Being sustainable is a trend that will never go out of season and will always look good on you. Since it's a topic and mission we strongly stand behind, we wanted to dive in and explain what sustainability & its benefits mean to us.

Sustainability is the avoidance of the depletion of natural resources in order to maintain an ecological balance. In other words, it means to preserve as much of the natural resources the planet provides for us. Sustainability– now more than ever– is extremely crucial to protect not only our natural environment but ourselves and generations of the future.

Now, you may be asking, "How can I become sustainable?" Fortunately, there are many brands, such as The Rode, that have sustainable products and practices to help reduce your carbon footprint and make it easier to live a more sustainable lifestyle. Let's dive in to some key principles!

To start, all apothecary products at The Rode are ethically designed with eco-conscious materials through a sustainable process. For example, the materials in our candles are made with 100% natural soy wax made from American-grown soybeans, which are renewable and biodegradable. The candles also include eco-friendly and clean-burning wooden wicks made from FSC Certified Wood.

If a classic bottle of hand soap with a chic countertop aesthetic is more your style, we've got you covered! The base of our hand soap is made with the highest and cleanest, Certified Organic natural ingredients, all made by renewable energy. Another plus is for every 40 bottles of The Rode's natural soap sold, one plant or tree is planted!

Unlike other apothecary brands – like the namesake Aesop, Byredo, and Jo Malone, The Rode produces locally to minimize the negative impact production has on the environment. We are grateful for Mother Earth's natural resources and are committed to doing our part to control local sourcing and manufacturing in ways that environmentally friendly and socially responsible. Having a local and controlled supply chain also allows us to avoid outsourced shipments for materials coming from overseas, minimizing our CO2 footprint.

Another way you can do your part to become more sustainable is avoiding single-use packaging. Try refilling your empty glass or plastic bottles at home – whether it's an empty water bottle, hand wash or shampoo bottle, single-use packaging is something we can all practice as a first step. The Rode allows customers to order liquid hand soap refillable pouches so you can refill your empties, sustainably!

Overall, being sustainable improves the health of you and others around you by being able to develop an economy with little waste, emissions, and pollution. This means, the more we help our gracious planet earth and help preserve the environment, the better life we will be given in return for generations to come!

After reading about what sustainability is, how you can become sustainable, and why it is beneficial to us and our environment, we hope it encourages you to support local businesses like The Rode to do your part in creating a better future for everyone. Together we can create a healthier environment – it all starts with you wanting to create change for the better!
